The memorial stone in the gardens was a tribute to the 1500000 Armenien victims of genocide in 1915. This was perpetrated by the Turkish government of the Ottoman Empire. The vast number of victims is hard to comprehend. In a sombre mood we headed into the area where they have preserved Roman ruins from a much earlier period.
